Phoebe’s Eye Surgery

Last week I woke up with a sore eye again. I had eye drops that I usually use when my eyes are dry or start to look a little sore. 

So a trip to the vets, which was weird experience in its self, I had to wait for the vet to come out and pick up me up from the car and take me in to be looked at. Sure felt weird going in with out mummy, she normally holds me and tells me it’s going to be all ok! 

Turns out I have another ulcer in my eye :( I had surgery in 2017 to remove the lens part of my eye and replace it with a new lens. So in theory I shouldn’t of gotten another ulcer. This is the 4th ulcer since my surgery, so mummy asked to see a specialist as it makes me very unhappy and uncomfortable every time I get another ulcer. 

I have an appointment with a special called an Ophthalmologist on Monday 15th, which alone the consultation is £220! I think mummy wishes she trained to be a vet like she wanted to do when she was little! 

Last time surgery cost over £1600 which I am told is ALOT of money. Because the insurance won’t pay for it again, mummy has to pay for it herself, which she will do. However can’t really afford it. So for the first time ever she has asked people for help. If you can spare a pound or two she will be forever grateful!

Update: 23/06/2020

So far treatment is working very well, even though i'm not enjoying being chased around the house every 2-3 hours for eye drops. I am very much enjoying the morning ham treat, however it does have a little crush to it, so I think the hooman has been adding things to it, however I gobble it up pretty quickly! 

I just want to thank everyone that has kindly donated to my Crowdfunding page so far. So far we have raised £222 which covered my Ophthalmologist consolation appointment fee last week. I have to go back on Monday 29th to see what the next steps are!

"Tell us a bit about you My full time job is as an administrator but I also enjoy photography. and your dogs Phoebe and Prudence are both Jackawawas and they are mother and daughter. Phoebe turned eight in March and Prue will be six in August. Phoebe is the quiet and relaxed one, she loves to sunbathe, eat biscuits and treats and sleep. Prue is more aggravating, she likes to sit on Phoebe when she is sleeping, likes to annoy the cat and doesn't understand the word stay. your favourite walk? They both love a walk, although Phoebe occasionally has issues about certain routes so we have to change it and go somewhere else. We are currently exploring Tenterden more as I can't drive to new walking destinations. 

Photography & Photographing Pets

We decided to do a blog on how to get better photographs of your pets. i.e. US!

Dog and Animal owners love to capture everything that they find beautiful and that they hold close to their hearts, and that includes us.

Us dogs can make some of the funniest, cutest and vibrant photography subjects. As we can be unpredictable it can be very difficult to capture really good shots. 

Here are some useful and hopefully practical tips for you. 

Use Natural Light 

The best option is to use the natural and continuous lighting that the sky provides. This won't frighten us or cause us to have red-eye in the images.

Use a Fast Shutter Speed

By not using a fast shutter speed we can appear to look like a blur, especially if we are moving fast. Using a fast shutter speed it will allow you to freeze the action. Such as us running or jumping up to catch a ball. 

Shoot Where We Are Comfortable 

If you have a nervous dog, its best not to take them to a location they are not comfortable with. This may stop them from showing their character and personality. So go to a local park they are used to or even the back yard. This will hep them feel and look more comfortable for the camera. 

Get Down to Our Level 

When capturing photos of your pet, it's best to get down to their eye level as this will give you the best view of their expressions. This may require you to lay down on the floor or crouch down, depending whether you have a Great Dane or a Itty Bitty Chihuahua. 

Grab Our Attention 

You can use whistles, treats or if they are really well trained words 'look' to get our attention when trying to capture our photos. Being ready in position to get our photo, you can call us once you have your gear ready, so when we look you can fire a shot or more of us looking directly at the camera. 

Focus on Our Eyes

"Eyes are the window to the soul" and this applies to any living subject. When you are framing us in your camera, make sure to auto-focus on the eyes to make sure they are sharp. 

Change Your Perspective 

Try shooting from different angles, such as way down below when shooting bigger dogs, or from the side, from above or even from behind. You can let your creativity run wild by taking close up shots of the face, paws or even the tail. 

Be Patient 

Unless your pet is super trained and very well behaved (like we sometimes are) then you will need a lot of patience. We can sense your energy, so if you are getting stressed out or frustrated at us, we all start to mirror it. 

So the more relaxed you are, the more relaxed we will be. 

The Most Important Part

REWARD US!! This can be in the form of belly rubs, toys and even treats! Treats are the best :) 

Use rewards to  make the shoot more fun and enjoyable! Remember it should be fun, the more we enjoy it the more we are likely to do it again in the future.

Sissinghurst Castle

Occassionly you need to explore somewhere different... Even if its muddy!!!

We went to #sissinghurstcasltle for our walk to make a change from the usual route, we enjoy visiting new places, plus mummy having a #nationaltrust card means no having to pay for the carpark which also means more pennies for biscuits :)
